COVID-19: Kerala logs 28,481 fresh cases, TPR soars to 35.3%

Thiruvananthapuram: COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Kerala with 28,481 new infections reported in the state on Tuesday.

Test Positivity Rate (TPR) soared to 35.3% on the day after 80,740 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

There are 1,42,512 active cases in Kerala even as 7,303 recoveries were recorded on the day.

COVID-19-related fatalities crossed 51,000-mark after 39 recent deaths and 83 previously undocumented ones were made official by the state health department.

There are 2,69,422 persons under observation throughout Kerala, of whom 2,64,003 are in home/institutional quarantine and 5,419 persons are hospitalised.

Even as only 3.4% of the total cases are in hospitals, there were 944 fresh admissions recorded on the day.

Of the fresh cases, 27,522 were infected through contact while the source of infection in 579 remains unknown and 215 cases were reported among healthcare workers. At least 165 recent arrivals in Kerala from other states also tested positive.
