Kochi corporation on Wednesday placed a health inspector under suspension, citing lapses in ensuring compliance with norms for the conduct of the dance programme at Kaloor stadium, during which Uma Thomas MLA fell down and sustained grievous wounds. Neetha M N, health inspector assigned to Health circle 16, Kaloor was suspended pending departmental inquiry by the Mayor.

According to corporation officials, the organisers of the dance event filed an application via online for places for public resort (PPR) license on December 28. The organisers had informed in the application that no ticket sales or permanent structures would be erected as part of the event.

The health official reported that the event did not require a PPR license and no fee was collected. During the event, Uma Thomas fell off a temporary stage erected for lighting the lamp and sustained serious injuries. She has been put on ventilator at a private hospital following the incident which happened on Sunday.

Mayor suspended the official noting that she failed to follow up on the application and check if the organisers violated the terms included in the application. The officials said that she visited the site a day ahead of the event and recommended that there was no need for license. However no inspection was done on the day of the event.
