A 60-year-old German tourist, Michael, was killed in an elephant attack near the Tiger Valley viewpoint in Valparai, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.

Michael had travelled from Pollachi to Valparai on a two-wheeler. Despite warnings from locals not to stop along the roadside, he continued further. As he approached the accident spot, an elephant charged at him, knocking him off his vehicle and inflicting severe injuries.

Locals rushed him to a nearby estate hospital for first aid before transferring him to the government hospital in Pollachi. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Michael had identified himself as a German national. Coimbatore police have launched an investigation to verify his identity and gather additional information. His body has been moved to the Pollachi hospital mortuary.
