Blinker pole stands in middle of road, poses danger to motorists

Ittiyappara: The blinker lamp installed years ago to ensure motorists’ safety on the one-way stretch here has now turned into a hazard for the public.
Vehicles attempting to move along the road’s edge risk colliding with the pole, raising fears of accidents. The blinker light system is located at the curve where the Kavungal Padi Bypass meets Chettimukku Road.
The lamp was originally installed by the Road Safety Authority, with dual lights fitted to guide vehicles approaching from both directions of the Chettimukku–PJT Junction Road. Until the pandemic, the facility was properly maintained, but since then, the lights have become dysfunctional due to neglect.
At present, one of the lights dangles precariously from the pole, and locals fear that if it falls, the glass could shatter on passing vehicles.
Adding to the danger, the road was recently widened and concreted, leaving the pole awkwardly positioned almost in the middle of the road. With little clearance, drivers are unable to safely move along the road’s side. Taking note of the issue, Angadi Panchayat president Bindu Reji has called for urgent action to remove the pole and restore safe passage for vehicles.
