Palakkad: A two-year-old leopard cub was found on private land at Chembana in Malampuzha on Saturday. The animal appeared weak as it had sustained an injury to one of its legs.

The landowner, Thankachan, spotted the cub after noticing his pet dog barking continuously in the direction of the animal. He immediately alerted forest officials.

Officials from forest department's rescue team arrived at the spot and captured the leopard using a net. The cub was then shifted to the forest department’s base camp in Dhoni. According to officials, the animal will be taken to the Mannuthy veterinary hospital for expert medical care after receiving first aid at the camp.

In January 2024, two leopard cubs were found in an abandoned house at Dhoni, which is only eight kilometres away from Chembana.
