Thrissur: A migrant worker was arrested for allegedly stabbing his colleague to death during a drunken brawl in Kunnamkulam. The accused, Dharambeer Singh (29), a native of Odisha, was nabbed while attempting to flee the state, police said. 

The victim, 19-year-old Dhanshyam Naik aka Pintu, also from Odisha, was fatally stabbed around 9.30 pm on Saturday. According to police, a heated argument broke out between the two during a drinking session and a card game. In a fit of rage, Dharambeer allegedly smashed a beer bottle and stabbed Dhanshyam in the chest and the right side of his abdomen.

A special squad of the Kunnamkulam police team tracked down and arrested the accused at Thrissur railway station shortly after the incident. The accused, who also suffered facial injuries in the scuffle, has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here.

Police said Dharambeer had arrived in Kunnamkulam three months ago to work at a private establishment. He will be produced before the court after medical treatment and detailed interrogation, they said.
