Keralites, known for their strong social reactions, took to various social media to troll BJP national president Amit Shah for allegedly trying to give a communal color to Onam. A hashtag #PoMoneShaji (crudely translates as 'get lost you Shaji') started trending on Twitter soon after he wished Vaman Jayanthi on the eve of the popular festival in Kerala.
Here are some of the tweet reactions on #VamanaJayanthi:
Comparing images of Amit Shah's 2015 tweet, in which he wished all Keralites happy Onam, and his controversial Vamana Jayanti tweet on Tuesday, politician Raju P. Nair asked the BJP leader how his concept about the festival changed over a year.
Social commentator and member of Sabarimala tantri family Rahul Easwar, meanwhile, appealed all to refrain from going to Mahabali vs Vamana.
Some others criticized BJP and other Hindu outfits for trying to convert a secular festival into a communal one.
Some even tagged Shah's tweet as one that points to BJP's agenda of 'not standing with the oppressed'.
Twitteratis like @kiduva warned that Malayalis who would pick Vamana jayanthi over Onam would be eventually isolated in the community.
Meanwhile, others like @shilaanand reminded Malayalis that they might get an Onam wish from Amit Shah on Wednesday and the Vamana Jayanthi one was for the national audience.
Meanwhile, Twitteratis like @itskarthikb4u stayed away from the controversy part of it and wished all both festivals.
