Thalayolapparambu: Police probing the alleged murder of a 44-year-old man who went missing eight years ago, recovered what appeared to be human bones from a compound close to the building where they were searching for the body remains.

The bones were recovered Thursday from the compound hardly 15 meters from the building where cops were searching for the body of Mathew, a financier who went missing in 2008. They will be sent to a forensic lab for examination to confirm if they belonged to the missing man.

Cops said the remains were discovered by accident. Manorama News showed visuals of the search team collecting the bones scattered among dry leaves in a treed compound. It was not clear how the bones had escaped attention for so long.

The case has hogged headlines after it was revealed that Mathew's daughter Nicy was tipped off about the murder by the killer's father himself.

Cops said Anish, who was doing time in a fake-currency case, has confessed to the murder. He pointed them to a place where a two-storey building now stands, and on Wednesday investigators dug up the floor of the building but found nothing.
