Bengaluru: Three weeks after she was knocked down by a bike-borne student at Sri Siddhartha Dental College at Tumkur in Karnataka, Kozhikode Permabra native Nileena Chandran lost the battle for her life on Thursday.

Nileena, a second year Master of Dental Surgery student, was fatally injured after the scooter she was riding was hit by a bike ridden by MBBS student Balusani Nagesh on March 23, the day of Holi celebrations at their campus in Tumkur. The accused Nagesh is a Hyderabad native.

Nileena, who suffered serious head injuries, was undergoing treatment at M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru where she passed away on Thursday.

The Tumkur police had registered a case against the accused for negligent driving. One person, who was involved in the accident, was arrested on April 4 in connection with the case, police said.

Nileena's death comes as an unfortunate reminder of the Trivandrum CET College accident that claimed the life of Tasni Basheer, a 20-year-old girl student, last year.

Tasni was fatally injured after she was allegedly mowed down by a jeep driven by students celebrating Onam inside her college campus.
