Kaduthuruthi: A man toying with an air gun accidentally shot his wife in the neck. The doctors said the injury was not serious but they are yet to remove the pellet from the woman’s neck.
The amateur shooter, a pineapple farmer who wanted to protect his produce from hungry birds, was honing his shooting skills on a friend’s air gun when one of the pellets went astray, hit a lorry and deflected towards his wife. The woman, who was feeding her baby, was hit in the neck. She was immediately taken to the hospital by her husband.
Doctors at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital are waiting for a CT scan report before pulling out the pellet from the woman’s neck.
Kaduthuruthi Circle Inspector M.K. Binukumar and sub inspector Shamsu went to the family’s house at Pazhamala near Chamakkala after the incident. The air gun did not require a license as it was meant to shoot birds and small animals, the police said.
No case has been registered as both the man and his wife said it was an accident.
