Ranjit Thampan to be additional advocate general

Thiruvananthapuram: Ranjit Thampan will be the nominee of the Communist Party of India (CPI), the second largest  constituent of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), for the post of additional advocate general, sources told Onmanorama.

Thampan was the additional advocate general in the previous LDF ministry headed by V.S. Achuthanandan that ruled the state from 2006-2011.

Thampan is also the son of Meenkashi Thampan, a former legislator of the CPI, who represented the Kodungaloor Assembly segment.

She was also a member of the State Women's Commission.

The  CPI has also decided to stake claim to a Public Service Commission (PSC) post that was held by it in the previous LDF ministry.

At present, there are three vacancies of PSC members lying vacant.

A decision on the advocate general's post is likely to be taken in today's cabinet meeting itself, sources told Onmanorama.

The CPM-led LDF government had earlier appointed senior counsel and former advocate general C.P. Sudhakara Prasad as advocate general.
