Kannur: A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker was critically injured after he was hacked by a gang of nearly 30 people at Muzhakkunnu here Thursday. He has been admitted to a hospital in Thalassery.
Sujayan (32), a mandal karyavahak of RSS, was attacked by the gang at an under-construction house by noon. The group threw country-made bombs, terrorizing residents in the area, and started attacking RSS workers, who were in the building, a Manorama News report said.
At least five other people were also injured in the attack, the report added.
The attack is reportedly a continuation of clashes between CPM and RSS workers in the area over the Sri Krishna Jayanthi celebrations organized by both the outfits Wednesday.
At least three RSS workers and two CPM activists were injured Wednesday. In a late night attack, CPM branch secretary Suresh was attacked by a group and he suffered head injuries.
Thursday's attack is the latest incident of political violence in Kannur, which is infamous for violent RSS/BJP-CPM clashes.
CPM has been organizing celebrations across Kerala on the occasion of Sri Krishna Jayanthi since last year and has accused the Sangh Parivar organizations of using such occasions to build their political base in the state.
Security was tightened in the politically volatile Kannur district in view of celebrations being organized by the CPM and Sangh Parivar.
