Kochi: Inspector General T.J. Jose on Monday told the judicial commission probing the solar scam that he had trashed the documents containing the phone call details of accused Sarita S. Nair as he did not deem it relevant to the case. He said he did not know that the four numbers tracked were being used by the solar scam accused.
The cyber cell of the police collected the call details of four phone numbers from the service providers in June 2013 acting on a complaint of defamation, said Jose, who was the Inspector General of State Crime Records Bureau from January 1, 2013 to February 17, 2014.
The cyber police station registered a case on reports of a defamatory campaign on Facebook. The investigation zeroed in on four phone numbers, whose details were collected on June 15 and June 19, 2013, he said. The information was emailed to the police station.
Jose said he deleted the email as it was not deemed relevant to the case at hand. He said he did not remember the date on which he deleted the mail but replied in the affirmative when the commission asked him if it was possible for experts to retrieve the mail.
Jose said he did not know then that the numbers were being used by Sarita.
He said he had nothing to do with the television news reports regarding Sarita’s phone call details. He also said he was not questioned by the then Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) T.P. Senkumar. The information received by the cyber cell was never leaked out, he added.
Judicial commission annoyed
Meanwhile, Justice G. Sivarajan has said Sarita will face an arrest warrant or other stringent actions if she continues to stay away from the commission probing the scam.
Sarita did not appear before the commission on Monday, saying she was not well. Her advocate C.D. Johny sought two more days for his client to make an appearance before the commission.
Raju Joseph and Sivan Madhathil, lawyers to the other parties, expressed their annoyance at the continued absence of the accused. This was tantamount to insulting the commission and a warrant or other measures must be initiated against her, Madhathil said.
Justice Sivarajan said he would consider action if Sarita stayed away on Wednesday as well, but her lawyer assured the judge that she would be present on Wednesday.
