In an unprecedented incident in the world of Malayalam literature, writer P. Surendran withdrew his book 'Greeshmamapini' which was publicized as a novel where veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan is the main character.
When asked about the reason behind the decision, Surendran said that the novel was never discussed for its writing style and that it got limited to the description that it is a novel about V.S. Achuthanandan.
“This novel was a mistake in my literary life. I have realized my mistake and I am correcting it now. Greeshmamapini should not be considered as a work of mine anymore,” Surendran said.
CK, the main character, was written around Achuthanandan and the novel dealt with the politician's struggles in and outside CPM.
The writer said that even though the novel used a never-used-before narrative in Malayalam, the talks about it got limited to its subject and to VS, group politics in CPM.
The author also said that his earlier appreciation of VS has also deteriorated now and that he has become a 'politician who is clinging onto power due to his greed'.
Surendran has asked publishers DC Books, who brought out three editions of the book so far, to not release anymore editions of it.
P. Surendran, who has authored over 30 books, is a recipient of several awards including Odakkuzhal Award, Kerala Sahitya Academy Award, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Award.
