Chicago: When Joel Cervantes Macias set up an online fund-raising page to help an 89-year-old popsicle seller, he aimed for just $3000.
But netizens came in a big way to help Fidencio Sanchez, the aging man who is still working to feed his family.
The gofundme page, which had an image of a stooped Sanchez pushing a Paletas Ponchos cart, melted the hearts of thousands across the world. The campaign raised over $384,000 from 17,447 people across the globe.
According to reports, Sanchez plan to buy a house and some hearing aid with the money.
Sanchez and his wife lost their only daughter recently and were responsible for taking care of their grandchildren. He sold popsicles to make ends meet, but now he can take a little rest, thanks to the kindness of netizens.
