1. Bappi Lahiri, who popularised disco music in Indian cinema in the 80s and 90s, died on Tuesday night following multiple health issues. He was 69.
The singer-composer, a familiar figure for many with his trademark gold chains that he wore for luck and his sunglasses, was known for his songs in several films of the late 70s and 80s. These included "Chalte Chalte", "Disco Dancer", and "Sharaabi".
The last rites will be held on Thursday as the family is waiting for his musician-son Bappa Lahiri to return from Los Angeles.
2. Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor Arya Rajendran is set to tie the knot with Balussery MLA K M Sachin Dev.
While Sachin Dev is the youngest MLA in 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly, Arya is the youngest Mayor in the country.
Though the date of the wedding has not been officially announced, it is expected to occur soon after the CPM State Committee meeting.
3. Vehicle insurance fraud worth crores of rupees using fake documents has come to light in Kerala.
The detailed investigations carried out by the state crime branch brought to the fore the modus operandi of the fraudsters. In two instances a vehicle was produced in eight cases and another vehicle in 11 cases to claim insurance money.
It has been found that agents acted as middlemen to orchestrate fake accidents and defraud the insurance companies.
4. A young man's invention to convert your ordinary bicycle into an electric bike in no time has become a hit on social media.
The Dhruv Vidyut Electric Conversion Kit, an innovative device created by Gursaurabh Singh, has captured the imagination of many, including industrialist giant Anand Mahindra.
Mahindra, who never misses what's trending on social media, has not only praised the youth for his innovative technology but also offered to invest in it.
According to a video featuring Singh and his innovation, cycles are ‘companions of 58% daily commuters in India,’ but they keep struggling to keep up with the pace of the progressive India. A bicycle can be converted into an electric two-wheeler capable of 25 km/h by simply installing the conversion kit on it. The device could be installed without any welding, cutting, or modifications on the bicycle. The device comes with an ignition switch, a battery indicator, and a throttle on the handle.
5. The online networks of Ukraine's defence ministry and two banks were hit by cyber attacks. Hackers flooded the network with unusually high volumes of data traffic to paralyse it.
Although Ukraine did not name who was behind the incident, a statement suggested it was pointing the finger at Russia.
Amid rising tension, US President Joe Biden had said that the United States is ready to respond decisively to a Russian attack on Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Russian defence ministry shared a video of Russian military equipment and forces leaving Crimea. The move comes after Moscow said Tuesday that some of its troops are returning to home bases, indicating cooling of tensions regarding the Ukraine issue.
6. India logged 30,615 new coronavirus infections, taking the country's tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,27,23,558, while the active cases dipped to 3,70,240, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated at 8am on Wednesday.
The death toll climbed to 5,09,872 with 514 fresh fatalities.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.45 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 3.32 per cent.
