Jakarta: Wrestler Divya Kakran won a bronze medal in the women's 68 kg freestyle event of the Asian Games here on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old overpowered Chen Wenling of Chinese Taipei 1-0 in the repechage bout. She had lost to Tumentsetseg Sharkhuu of Mongolia 1-11 in the quarterfinals. But once Sharkhuu made to the final, Divya was eligible to compete in the repechage.

"This is my first Asian Games and first medal. I am glad I could I do it. The coach (Kuldeep Malik) had more confidence in me than myself," Divya said.

India's national women freestyle coach Kuldeep Malik said, "She is young and it was her first tournament of this level. She will get better."

Divya had also picked up a bronze medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

This was the third medal for India from the wrestling ring at this Asiad. Bjarang Punia (65 kg freestyle) and Vinesh Phogat (50 kg) had won gold medals on the last two days.
