Jakarta: Keralite Muhammed Anas and Arokia Rajiv qualified for the men’s 400 semifinals on the first day of the athletics competition at the Asian Games here on Saturday.
Anas, who has broken the national record twice in the last five months, topped his heat with a time of 45.63 seconds at the GBK Sports Complex.
Qatar’s Mohamed Abbas came second at 45.81.
Rajiv ended up second in heat 4, clocking 46.82. Qatar’s Abdalelah Hassan took the top spot with 46.28.
The semifinals will be staged later tonight, while the final is scheduled for Sunday night.
