The fables that feature exotic underwater castles might have stretched your imagination. If so, what about a night’s stay in a castle of sorts with pellucid glass panes separating you from water? You can’t ask for more as octopuses and fish of all hues would be lazily moving around as you get up close with the wonders of the rich and diverse marine life.

The Manta Resort on Pemba Island in Tanzania’s Zanzibar archipelago is offering this heart-stopping underwater experience for the visitors. The tourists can relax in surreal surroundings in the room constructed underwater in the Indian Ocean.

This dream space has been conceptualised and built by Genberg Underwater Hotels, a Swedish company. The magical resort has three levels and the underwater bedroom is submerged 4 metres below the surface of the ocean. Spotlights are fixed at the room windows to help visitors enjoy the mesmerizing marine life at night.

And if you are visiting the resort alone, the room rent is between 520 dollars and 620 dollars (Rs 38,097 to Rs 47,621). The room tariff can vary according to the tourism season. The resort serves the best delicacies for its guests and the menu includes pancakes, egg-based dishes, bacon, fresh fruit platter and the refreshing Tanzania coffee. The island is also famous for its traditional medicine and sorcery. Earlier, political conflicts and the difficulty to reach the island kept tourists away from this pristine place. The populace of the island is a mix of Arabs, who migrated from Oman, and the local Waswahili inhabitants. People visiting Pemba would love to dive and swim in the blue waters and enjoy the beauty of virgin coral reefs. The best time to visit Pemba Island is from November to February.
