When in Thrissur, enjoy hot kanji for Rs 30 at this eatery

If you ever feel like having steaming hot kanji (rice porridge) with spicy chutney and delicious stir fries when you are in Thrissur, head straight to the 'Manjali Kanji Kada' at Palakkal Angadi near the Thrissur district hospital.

One could enjoy a bowl of tasty and refreshing kanji for just Rs 30 here. As Onam is the season when special combo offers are in play, this quaint eatery serves chicken, beef or pork curries along with a meal that costs just Rs 70.

Owner Linto says that he decided to introduce this offer seeing the rush hours, especially during the Onam season. This eatery is run by Linto, his mother and two helpers. It is his mother who oversees the cooking and adds a touch of her own magic in all the dishes that are served here. Rice, kanji, beef, chicken and pork dishes and fish dry are served at this eatery. Snacks aren't served here as the owners concentrate mostly on the lunch service.

Hot kanji that has great demand costs just Rs 30. Two types of stir fries, chilli chutney, mango pickle, lemon pickle, pappadam and round chillies are served as sides for the kanji. Buttermilk, sambar, and chicken gravy, too, are available as per demand. The lunch hours are usually very busy and people are often seen queuing up in front of the hotel, waiting for their turn, or having their lunch standing.

Linto, who opened the eatery just after completing class 10, has been running it for the last 18 years. Those who work at different places in the town area would come here to enjoy the delicious lunch. The eatery opens at 9 in the morning and serves amazing food until 3 in the evening.
