Located close to the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, Pandikuzhi offers some amazing views, particularly on the Tamil Nadu side. However, the place, blessed with natural beauty, is yet to be discovered by travellers.
It is an ideal spot for trekking and scenes from the hilltop resemble some paintings created by an artist from his imagination. There is greenery all around and a cool breeze blows all the time.
The route to Pandikuzhi is, however, a little treacherous as a deep ravine of around 1,000 ft lies on one side. Still, the risk is worth taking and adventurous travellers would certainly be rewarded for their effort.
Kurisumala
This is another spot ideal for trekking. Kurisumala is a hill that resembles a fort and is located around the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Similar to Pandikuzhi, the views from the top of Kurisumala, too, are breathtaking. Visitors making it to the peak of the hill can enjoy the sights of the wildlife sanctuary. Kurisumala is barely 4 km from Thekkady.
Chellarkovil
Situated at an altitude of around 3,000 ft above sea level, Chellarkovil, too, offers fantastic scenery, but travellers have to make a steep climb uphill to enjoy it. However, the cool breeze and the presence of mist make the trip interesting.
The attraction at Chellarkovil is a panoramic view of the flourishing farming areas in Tamil Nadu. There is a waterfall in the area, that adds to the magical feel of the place. Chellarkovil is located barely 15 km from Kumily.
Grambi
A visitor to Grambi, a hill station near Thekkady, would feel as if you are in paradise. It is surrounded by mountains that are covered with mist all the time, a pleasant breeze blows without a break and there are intermittent light showers, all adding to the charm of the destination. The scenery is picturesque. Visitors stress that they never wish to leave the place.
Adding to the thrill of visiting Grambi is the route, which has a deep ravine on one side. The drive is dangerous and there are spots which resemble suicide points along the way. Grambi is 24 km from Thekkady.
Abraham's spices garden
Travellers interested in farming should certainly visit this beautiful garden near Thekkady. Started by Abraham in 1952, the garden was the result of his deep love for agriculture. Apart from spices, a wide variety of medicinal plants, fruits, and flowers are grown in Abraham's spices garden. Visitors can acquire deep knowledge about each crop and the information is available in several languages.
Seeds and saplings of various plants can be purchased from the garden. The visiting time is from 8 am to 6.30 pm and the entry fee is Rs 200. Abraham's spices garden can be reached driving 15 km from Thekkady.
