The beautiful bamboo huts at picturesque Adavi have undergone a facelift to welcome tourists. The treetop bamboo huts built as part of the forest department's Adavi ecotourism project aim to attract visitors who wish to spend a night enjoying the cool of wilderness and beautiful sound of the flowing brook. The bamboo huts were built around three years ago on the banks of Kallar River, near the Konni–Thannithode road in the Peruvali forest that comes under Konni forest division.
Five bamboo huts and a spacious dining hall are built using treated bamboos brought from the factories of bamboo corporation. Though the maintenance works were done initially by the bamboo corporation, it stopped after some time. Nine months ago, one of these huts was renovated on an experimental basis by availing the services of a private agency.
As the rest of the huts and the dining hall were left unused due to lack of maintenance, it affected the revenue. So, 3 months ago, the contract was given for the renovation of the 3 huts and the hall. The maintenance works got over a few days ago and the huts are fit to host guests.
Lots of tourists including foreigners are arriving at Adavi to enjoy this unique experience. The first coracle boat rides in Kerala, too, was introduced as part of the Adavi ecotourism project. Tourists and adventure enthusiasts really enjoy the thrilling coracle boat rides through the Kallar in Mundommoozhi near Thannithode.
