Anjumalapara is a hill at Enadimangalam village in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. From the hilltop, one can enjoy the sight of other hills, mist, clouds and stunning sunrises as well as sunsets.

A good spot to escape from the urban madness, Anjumalapara is referred to as ‘Pathanamthitta’s Meesapulimala’ after the famous destination near Munnar.

Legends and myths

Several myths exist regarding the hill and the most popular is related to the Thannikkal family. Years ago, the area was under the control of this family, which started paddy cultivation around Anjumalapara. However, during harvest, it was noticed that the paddy was not yet ready and the Thannikkal family abandoned all of it there itself.

Three days later, some people who reached the place for grazing cattle found that the paddy had become ripe. They measured the paddy and saw that it was more than a unit called ‘ayaramthooni.’ Henceforth, the place came to be known also as ‘Ayaramthooni Mala’.

Moreover, there are legends connecting Anjumalapara with the historic Mannady Devi Temple. Yet another curious feature of Anjumalapara is a pond at the hilltop which does not dry up even during extreme summers.
