Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is offering 15 more cottages for travellers to enjoy the stunning scenery of Ponmudi. The new facilities are arranged at KTDC's Golden Peak Hill Resort. Built at a cost of Rs 3.20 crore, they are an addition to the 14 existing cottages at the resort.
The new cottages will be inaugurated by Tourism and Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran on December 18.
The room tariff for the cottages ranges between Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,600 a day.
The Golden Peak Resort was designed by the legendary architect Laurie Baker. The new cottages have come up on the same compound in a traditional Kerala style. Five among them offer the most panoramic view of the Ponmudi valley. In fact, the scenery can even be enjoyed from the bedrooms of these cottages.
Earlier, the room tariff started from Rs 2,200. This was reduced to Rs 1,500 to make the facility accessible to more people. The average tariff of the new cottages would be Rs 3,000. This figure might go up to Rs 3,600 during holidays.
Meanwhile, KTDC authorities have decided to launch the restoration and beautification of the old cottages. In addition, there are plans to build a hot water swimming pool and children's play for visitors in Ponmudi. Work on a new guest house is on near the golden peak and police station. Though extra rooms have been built the old guest house, they are still not used as power supply is yet to be provided.
