With its numerous hills, meadows and rock clusters, Wayanad is a source of excitement for travel junkies (read trekkers). One of Wayanad’s best-kept secret is Chingeripara – a not-so-famous hiking trail, which is now being developed as an adventure tourism destination.
Rock adventure
Administrative sanction has been given for a Rs. 1.04-crore project in Chingeripara under the name Rock Adventure Tourism. The money will be spend on developing the area into a tourist spot with cloak rooms, security cabins, washrooms and pantry blocks. Along with landscaping, entry pavilion and multi-purpose pavilion will also be set up for tourists.
Beckoning thrill-seekers
The steep and inclining rock cluster will be an amazing experience for those who seek to conquer heights though it can't be called ultra adventurous. Local people as well as visitors from outside often climb to the top.
At the top, one gets to view Karapuzha dam reservoir and surrounding areas. A rock in the shape of an umbrella is another attraction at the top.
Kaduvakuzhi
The development project for Chingeripara also raises hopes for nearby Kaduvakuzhi, which is still under-developed despite a steady flow of tourists.
Second plan
Apparently, another development plan for Chingeripara was cleared years ago. The previous government had drawn up a tourism plan for the area at a Rs. 7.5-crore estimate. Money was spent on a foundation, and concrete pillars were erected, but there was no progress. The plan was for a big project with rope way, counter, rest rooms for tourists, etc.
The route
Chingeripara is just a kilometer away from Ambalavayal town on Karapuzha Road.
