night trek

Trekking is an adventure that holds a lure for exciting exploration of the world. The usual chosen time for a trek seems to be day-break but there are some night-trekking destinations that offer a rich panoramic of views at the end of a thrilling night.

Just imagine! A night of trekking that would take you to the top of the world by the time morning sun peeps out of the horizon. So, are you ready for a night trek, with a beam of light in your hand? Here are some exciting trekking routes for those who love a dash of adventure.

Antara Gange, Kolar

Antara Gange is located in the Shathashrunga mountain ranges in Kolar district of Karnataka. The narrow and deep network of meandering volcanic caves are the biggest attraction here. The Dakshina Kashi Temple is another attraction for the travellers, most of whom prefer nocturnal trekking. The volcanic rocks have enough crevices and nooks that require crawling at some points. Of course, you will have to carry your lantern. But, the sights that await you at the end of the tunnels are enough to purge even the biggest exhaustion.

Dhotre-Tonglu, Darjeeling

The Dhotre-Tonglu trek is in Darjeeling. The route is well known for its scenic beauty, with rhododendron trees in bloom. Both the day and night treks are quite popular with the travellers here. But most choose the night trek that leads up to sunrise. Weather that keeps flitting between rain and snow also adds to the adventure.

Rajmachi trek

Rajmachi Fort still bears the memories of the first Anglo- Maratha war. The fort and the popular trekking path are located in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra. Rajmachi is located around 15 kilometres from Lonavala, a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra. Trekking path begins from the village Kondivade.

The climb is a bit steep and not easy for first time climbers. But those who are familiar with the mountainous routes can reach the top easily. Usually the trekking takes around 10 to 12 hours, most need multiple breaks in between. Both day-time and night-time trekking are permitted here. The route through forest can also provide a thrilling experience to those who love a bit of adventure.

Ranganathaswamy Betta

The Ranganathaswamy Betta hills are located at Kanakpura in Karnataka. Situated around 70 kilometres from Bengaluru, this location known popularly as B R Hills is one of the most favoured trekking routes.

The B R Hills are known for the Ranganatha Swamy Temple, located on top. The trekking begins from Bennarghatta National Park and requires permission from the department of forests and wildlife. A lot of caution is required because of the presence of wild elephants in the forest area. Along with the view of the temple, the travellers can also enjoy sights of river Kaveri and the Savan Durga hills.

Harishchandragarh

The Harichandragarh fort located in the Western Ghats is reputed to be the most beautiful of the forts within the mountain range. The trekking path leads to the fort. This trekking, however, requires more than a little bit of effort and can be quite tiresome. Harichandragarh welcomes the travellers with a slew of beautiful sights, which mitigates all exhaustion on reaching the top. The night trekking can be even tougher, but the sight of dawn breaking from top of the hills will compensate for all the strain.
