As India celebrates its seventy-fourth Independence Day on August 15, five other nations around the world would also witness a similar event. Here are the other countries which also won freedom from their colonists on August 15.

Bahrain
It was on August 15, 1971, that Bahrain became free from the British rule. The country, in fact, declared independence after a survey was conducted among the people by the United Nations. After this declaration, both Bahrain and the British entered into a treaty of friendship. Even though the actual day Bahrain had become free was August 14, the nation celebrates its Independence Day on August 15.

At present, Bahrain is a popular place among travel lovers and the main attraction is the country's capital Manama. Places of interest include Manama Souk, Muharraq Island where visitors can engage in pearl diving, Bahrain National Museum and Bahrain Fort, among other sights.

North and South Korea
August 15 is celebrated as National Liberation Day by both North Korea and South Korea. It is, in fact, the only common event celebrated by the rival countries.

The day marks the defeat of the Japanese forces which occupied a united Korea by a joint army of the US and Soviet Union in 1945. Three years later, Korea was bifurcated into North Korea and South Korea.

South Korea is now a vibrant and diverse country, where tradition and technology go hand-in-hand. There are ancient temples as well as swank high-rises in the country, which boasts of numerous tourist attractions. Seoul, the country's capital, flaunts the most modern architecture, party vibes, picturesque parks and pop culture. It also has beautiful palaces, chic restaurants and stylish boutiques.

A favourite destination of travellers, Seoul is also known for its nightlife and is termed a 'City that never sleeps.'

Lichtenstein
A European nation without an airport and armed forces, Lichtenstein is tucked between Austria and Switzerland. Among the smallest countries in the world, it is considered to be the remnant of the ancient Roman empire. Independence Day is celebrated by Liechtenstein on August 15 as it was on this day that the country became free from German rule in 1866.

Surrounded by the scenic Alps mountains, Liechtenstein is also the smallest country where German is spoken. Some of the most picturesque villages in Europe are located in the country, which is also a hikers’ paradise. The Liechtenstein Tourism Board offers around 30 hiking trails that take trekkers to the stunning heights of Alps as well as scenic rural hamlets.

Republic of Congo
Congo gained full freedom from France on August 15, 1960, exactly 80 years after the French occupied the territory. Now the Independence Day of the Republic of Congo is referred to as Congolese National Day.
