Princess Street is probably the most happening place in Fort Kochi – and it’s also the most touristy; ascribe it to the alleyway’s proximity to the beach and the resplendence of the colonial era structures that capture the zeitgeist of a bygone era.

Amble along the busy street lined up by small shops that sell antique jewelry, satin scarves and other curios and shop till you drop. Well, if that sounds boring, clamber up the stairs of ‘Loafers’ corner cafe’, occupy a balcony seat and experience the grandeur of the place.

With a cozy readers’ nook, stacked bookshelves, planked floor and a soothing music playing in the background, Loafer's corner has been a venue for a couple of art exhibitions during the biennale.

Coming down to food, this upstairs cafe is truly a couple of steps ahead of its contemporaries in the locality. 'Hot Chocolate' rules the warm beverages row. The steamy hot, boiled milk-chocolate drink will melt away all your apprehensions about what's in store and leave you with a choco-mustache for your partner to laugh at.

‘Olive and Herb Cheese Omelet’ will make a perfect starter now. This mighty whitish circle would spill the platter in all edges. Olive goes well with the half melted cheese and make your taste buds crave for more.

Another unique preparation of Loafers Cafe is ‘Vindaloo Beef Tortilla Wrap’. Don’t worry if you are a hardcore vegan; the menu has ‘Spinach and Mushroom Spaghetti on Pesto’. Accompanied by an array of toppings and pepper, the wrap will impress you with its appetizing look even before you take it on a trip to your breadbasket.

With a pleasantly spicy tang, this palm-sized wraps will make flavors dance on your taste buds for some time. The spinach spaghetti is no less wonderful. You will never expect our green spinach to be this versatile. If you throw enough granulated black pepper on it, the creamy spaghetti will melt in your mouth. 'Cold Pasta Salad' is also a must-try dish here; have it with the soft garlic bread and it wins your heart right away.

Well, it's time for something cool, say smoothies or shakes. Coconut milk shake is the cafe’s signature item in this department. This indulging paper white, chilling, coco flavored shake is perfect for those ‘only chocolate will do’ people. Pomegranate lemonade is also a good option as it gives some cute little pomegranates arils to chew upon while enjoying the pale colored lemon drink. Not to mention, it quenches your thirst like nothing else.

To put it succinctly, if you ever happen to hang around through the busy streets of Fort Kochi in a fuming hot afternoon, never hesitate to rush up through the wooden stairs of 'Loafers' Corner Cafe'.
