When you think of trekking in Kerala, you think of Wayanad and the hill ranges around Idukki. But there are some not-so-explored places around Thrissur that only a local will tell you. Here's the list.

Athirapally -Vazhachal

We are sure that you would have heard about the famous waterfall, but your tour operator may have never told you that you can trek through the forests around here. In fact, there are two places you can trek up to. One is the beautiful Kurishumudi, a five-hour trek from Charpa, an experience you will never forget and the other, a close encounter with nature up above Vazhachal.

Chimmony

If your idea of a day's break involves trekking in a forest - full of snakes and other creepy crawlies, lush green and birds - pack your bags and set off to Chimmony about 40km from Thrissur town. And for the record, you might come across a tiger, if you are in luck. The authorities also conduct butterfly safari and bird watching trips. And that is not all, if you plan in advance you can stay at an eco-retreat nearby.
