Andhakaranazhi is where the backwaters meet the Arabian Sea. Azhi is the Malayalam word for an estuary. It is a laidback village in Cherthala Taluk in Alappuzha district. It is ideal to reach Andhakaranazhi early in the morning or late in the evening. The Kerala government has set up a mini-fishing harbor and beyond that stands the Manakodam Lighthouse.

There is a small walkway by the beach with refreshment shops next to it. It is an ideal place to wind down after a busy work week and watch the sunset. If there's no high tide alert, you can even venture into the sea.

A drive to the lighthouse will enthrall you, for it's pristine and relaxing. You'll also have to drive past a railway crossing and a newly-built bridge. Walk around and you will see paddy fields and shrimp farms.
