Singer Abhaya Hiranmayi, life partner of noted music director Gopi Sundar, has shared details of a cracking tourist-centric startup on social media. She has posted information relating to ‘Tentgram’ project, which was started by a group of young engineers at Munnar in Idukki district. Abhaya has also uploaded pictures and videos of Tentgram’s residential facility in Munnar.
Much more than space for stay
Apart from taking people to some exotic locations, Tentgram, which is more of an outdoor recreation centre, paves the way for tourists to enjoy trekking, star gazing, sunrise and sunset. This startup company’s credo is to celebrate nature as it is the biggest luxury in the world.
Illyas Rayaroth, Fazil, Jethin Krishna, Nabeel Rasheed and Thaha Paloli – all engineering graduates- started the venture in 2017. In the past five years, the startup has provided its service to close to 25,000 people. Even in the COVID-19 times, nearly 500 people became Tentgram guests. Tentgram has around 500 employees and its office is at Cyber park in Kozhikode.
Where all you can visit
Presently, Tentgram has travel programmes in locations such as Wayanad, Munnar and Alappuzha in Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh. Travellers staying in Munnar can go for trekking and those camping in Alappuzha can enjoy the thrill of kayaking and boating in lake. Waterfall visit is part of the tour package for people going to Wayanad apart from trekking. Tentgram is planning to extend its service to Kozhikode, Nilgiris and Ooty in the immediate future.
Pan-Indian expansion on the anvil
“There are many tour companies from north India that have spread their wings to the southern region of the country. Rarely does a travel startup go to north India after establishing its base in south,” says Thaha Paloli. The company is planning to expand its services to main tourist destinations in the country by taking the franchise route.
One has to shell out a minimum of Rs 5,000, including food and accommodation, for a journey to a tourist destination. But Tentgram has a huge surprise for you. You have to pay only Rs 1,500 for a tour package to any location. And this package includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner, pick-up and drop and camp fire.
The company’s basic principle is to provide better facilities to the travellers at a cheaper rate. “Word-of-mouth publicity is the only marketing technique we have. The company is more like a family for the tourists and the travellers are the best marketers of the startup,” notes Thaha.
