The dew-laden green carpets of tea plantations, an undulating landscape of hills and meadows straight out of a picture book spreading all over to the distant horizon, the misty hills and mountain pathways and above all, the chill brought out by the breeze and the mist… Munnar often defies descriptions. The views in Munnar are invigorating both to the eyes and to the mind. Many Kochi folks rush to Munnar on holidays. For all those who had been there and done it all and for all those who now find the resort tourism a bit cliched, it is time to change and mood and the vibes.

Have you seen the meteors playing hide and seek in the night sky? Have you watched the sun blooming over the hills, cutting away the sheath of the chill around you? Are you passionate about trekking amongst the lush greenery of tea plants and other vegetation? Will a stay in a tent at a hilltop beyond the normal reach of people excite you? For all these and more, head to 'Amoeba Nature' in Yellapetty, near Munnar. That is, only if you are ready to forsake the luxury and comfort of a resort.

'Amoeba Nature Tent Camping' is the start-up venture of three youths – Jishnu, Khajan and Mithun – fresh out BTech and MBA and now looking for a foothold in the field of tourism. The tenting season is from October to February. This serene and scenic place is at the 18th mile on the Hill Station Road from the Munnar town. The tent camp is about 500 meters from the main road.

The camp has a total capacity of 60 people. In one tent up to four persons can stay. A campfire can be set up for the guests to enjoy. The camp can provide a variety of dishes to choose from. The tariff is Rs 1500/- per head. Since the place is abundant in many bird types, this is a favourite haunt for bird watchers.

Far below the mountains, the town of Kambam in Theni district can be seen from the camp site. The Amoeba Nature Tent Camping provides the ambience suitable for a tranquil forest dwelling at economical rates. Since the camping site is deep in the interior, there is no electric power.
