The rains that wrecked havoc in the high ranges a week ago has let up. And that makes, Idukki with its pristine environments, ideal for a long weekend getaway.
Despite the heavy downpours last week, it is expected that Thekkady and Munnar will receive more footfalls from neighboring Tamil Nadu and north India. The heavy rains have damaged the roads, but that has not really seen a reduction in the number of travelers heading to these destinations in Idukki.
Boating at Thekkady
A trip to Idukki is incomplete without a boat ride at Thekkady. The rains have fed the lake here abundantly and the water level now is above 127 feet which is ideal for boat rides. Last year the water level dropped below 110 feet and the authorities had to reduce the number of people on board during a ride. KTDC’s brand new boat is also likely to join the fleet of 6 boats, of which three are operated by KTDC and three by the forest department. With the addition of the new boat, 600 more visitors could enjoy the beautiful Thekkady lake per day.
