Though the film featured lesser-known actors, all of them essayed their roles brilliantly. While mini-screen actor Pratibha Ranta played Jaya, Nitanshi Goel was seen as Phool Kumari. Sparsh Srivastava who had made his debut in the small screen with 'Balika Vadhu' and later appeared in small roles in films like 'Collar Bomb' and 'Ae Watan Mere Watan', played Phool’s husband Deepak.
Each character is well-defined in the movie. Phool is shown as a woman who is timid and innocent, while Jaya represents a section of women who are unable to follow their dreams due to social conditioning and unfair circumstances. Manju Maai played by Chhaya Kadam is an epitome of strength and compassion.
The success of 'Laapataa Ladies' lies in its simplicity. The makers present the women and the men in the story realistically, without larger-than-life heroes or a complicated plot.
