Contemporary homes that could be built by efficiently utilising the space in small plots have become the trend of late. Moreover, such houses are perfect to be built in cities where land costs a bomb. This beautiful contemporary house stands in a 5-cent plot at the YMCA Road in the coastal town of Fort Kochi. The family wanted an elegant house in a small plot that fits their budget too.

The elevation features a contemporary box design. Interestingly, a covered car parking has been arranged in the set-back area, in the front, in order to ensure space efficiency. Meanwhile, the small front yard and the landscape have been elegantly designed to complement the elevation. Natural stones and artificial grass have been paved in the front yard.

The walls of this beautiful house are built using regular clay bricks. Compared to the cement blocks, these absorb less heat, making the interiors comfortable. The vertical jali works on the elevation act as a modern design element that grabs attention.

The fabulous abode, built on 2800 sqft, has formal and family living areas, an open kitchen, a work area, and five bedrooms.

The interiors are designed in a semi-open style. Meanwhile, the living and dining areas, staircase and the kitchen have been arranged as part of the spacious hall. This makes the interiors look and feel vast. The long walls donning a bright green hue inside the house add a pop of colour here. Most of the furnishing is done in study teak wood.

Interestingly, the positions of the windows have been determined by understanding the path of the wind. These windows ensure that there is excellent cross ventilation to make the interiors cooler. The ceiling in the dining area is in double height, making this space appear bigger.

The kitchen isn’t too tall and the family living area has been arranged right above it. Interestingly, this amazingly furnished space is the highlight of the interiors.
Meanwhile, the modern kitchen is compact and has everything within the hand’s reach. The cabinets are done in plywood with a laminate finish. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen.

The bedrooms are space-efficient and have attached bathrooms and separate wardrobes. The interiors of this smartly designed house look spacious and comfortable that it hardly feels that it has been built in just 5 cents.
