Volkswagen’s latest offering, Vento 1.2 TSI automatic, dispels the notions that the German automobile maker predominantly makes only diesel cars.
The company is clearly looking to tap the demand for automatic cars in the country. This Vento comes with a 1.2 litre turbo charged engine and a seven speed DSG gearbox which is generally seen only in high end vehicles such as the Audis.
The Vento 1.2 TSI automatic does look docile, but then looks can be deceptive. This humble looking sedan turns into an outright performer from the word go.
Another Vento

The new Vento bears a resemblance to Jetta, thanks to its newly designed front grill. The double barrel headlamps look beautiful while the alloy wheels are smartly designed.
The Vento 1.2 TSI automatic comes in two models - comfort line and highline. The base model comes with airbags, air condition and power windows while the highline model comes with bigger 15 inch alloy wheels.
The components used are of good quality and are in good trim. The dual tone finish and fabric seats look impressive. The seats are comfortable and give ample support to the thighs and back. Arm rests have been provided for both the front seat and rear seat passengers. On close attention, a chrome strip on the boot can be spotted.
Interiors

Though the dashboard remains the same, a new sporty steering wheel, usually found in expensive Volkswagen cars, has come in. Climate control and dash-integrated stereo are available only in the highline model. Adjustable steering and electronic wing mirror controls are standard features. The glove box is spacious enough.
Technology
The new generation DQ200 gearbox used to be an exclusive feature of big cars such as the Skoda Superb. This Vento’s engine is tuned for maximum fuel efficiency and the car returns 18 kilometres per litre of fuel without compromising even a bit on the drivability front. The power band is wide and torque is delivered in a pretty linear fashion. Driving is effortless.
Modern features such as hill hold that prevents the vehicle from rolling down while going uphill and electronic stability program (ESP) take care of the safety aspects.
Behind the wheel
The seven speed DSG automatic gearbox is phenomenal. Driving is as stress-free as it can get.
Get in, start, slot it in the drive mode and zoom away. The driver can enjoy all the benefits of an automatic gearbox and yet will not for once crave for a manual gearbox. One of the key qualities of this car is super effortless driving.
Shift it into the sports mode and the character of the car changes. There is also an option to change gears manually, a feature that will come handy while overtaking on the highways.
The New 1.2 litre Engine
This engine that first came in the Polo GT TSI is notches above the 1.6-litre version. This comparatively smaller mill delivers 105 bhp and 17.5 kgm of torque. There is plenty of usable power on the tap always. This is one of the most silent Volkswagens with minimal noise and vibrations. Thanks to its petrol engine.
Handling and passenger comfort
All credit to its suspension tuning, a plush ride and sharp handling are highlights of the new Vento.
