Dileep expelled from his own syndicate; Antony Perumbavoor takes on his mantle

Dileep and Antony Perumbavoor

Actor Dileep, who found himself more and more isolated in Malayalam film industry following his arrest for allegedly giving contract to attack a fellow actress, has been expelled from the organization he floated early this year. Antony Perumbavoor replaced Dileep as the president of the Film Exhibitors United Organization of Kerala (FEUOK), which was a brain child of the actor. A meeting of the organization held at Kochi on Wednesday afternoon expelled Dileep from it and handed over the charge to Perumbavoor.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Perumbavoor said that the recent developments would not affect the release of Dileep-starrer Ramaleela. “The producers of the film have not yet approached FEUOK for the release. We will extend all support if they request our help,” the new president of the syndicate said.

Dileep, who has laid his hands on different areas of the film industry by owning theatres and distribution company, masterminded a rebellion in the Kerala Film Exhibitors’ Federation (KFEF) early this year to float FEUOK.

Even though he owns Grand Productions, a film distribution company, he had no membership in the Film Distributor's Association, the office bearers clarified.

Despite his influential position in the industry, all organizations in the Mollywood, including Film Employees Federation of Kerala, Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA), and Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), had expelled Dileep, following his arrest.

Meanwhile, the KFPA expressed solidarity with the actress who was subjected to the harrowing experience. The annual general body meeting of the association passed a resolution in support of the actress. Producer Saji Nandyatt, who found himself in the eye of a controversy for his comments against the actress, apologized for his tirade against the victim in a television show. The meeting also approved the expulsion of Dileep from the KFPA.
