Blockbuster movie 'Mahanati' is the biopic of yesteryear screen goddess Savithri. South Indian diva Keerthy Suresh amazingly portrayed the role of Savithri while her husband superstar Gemini Ganesan’s character was essayed by Malayali heartthrob Dulquer Salman.
The movie directed by Nag Ashwin continues its dream run at the box office, earning positive reviews from both viewers and critics alike. While critics hail Keerthy’s performance in 'Mahanati' as her career best, Dulquer Salman too has won many hearts in the Telugu industry.
Savithri and Gemini Ganesan’s love affair, marriage and their break-up in real life were all as dramatic as a movie. Many scenes were deleted from the final cut owing to the length of the feature film. Now the crew has released one such scene which is grabbing the attention of the movie lovers on social media.
Gemini Ganesan was already having an affair with an actress called Pushpavalli when he fell in love with Savithri. The screen icon even had kids with Pushpavalli. Actress Rekha, the glamorous diva who conquered Bollywood with her dreamy eyes and charming smile, is the daughter of Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli. The makers have released the dropped scene in 'Mahanati' where child Rekha is introduced as Ganesan’s daughter.
The scene opens where Savithri’s daughter Vijaya returns from school and crossly says to her mother that Rekha had told she was also another daughter of her father. Savithri is then shown asking Gemini Ganesan to invite Pushpavalli and Rekha to their house.
The emotionally charged scene in which both Keerthy and Dulquer have performed exceptionally well is appreciated by everyone. In fact the social media users are vehemently criticising the makers for not including such a beautiful scene in the movie. Many of them have called it one of the best scenes in the movie.
Sharing the deleted scene on his Facebook page, Dulquer Salman wrote, “Here’s a super-interesting scene that didn’t make the final cut from #Mahanati. Gemini with his 3 wives and kids in one space. Pushpavalli garu and her daughter, a young Rekha ji make an appearance! Enjoy!”
It is said that Gemini Ganesan and Savithri’s relationship turned sour when the former began an affair with a girl named Juliana. Meanwhile, one of Gemini’s daughters Dr Kamala Selvaraj has criticised some of the scenes in the movie.
Referring to a scene in which Gemini Ganesan prompts Savithri to drink alcohol, Kamala said that it was not her father who gave alcohol to Savithri for the first time.
She added that the scene had saddened her deeply. Kamala, a renowned gynaecologist is Gemini Ganesan’s daughter from his first wife Alamelu. Actor Gemini Ganesan, who is widely known as ‘Kadhal mannan’(king of romance) has seven kids from four marriages, including Dr Revathi Swaminathan, who is an oncologist in America; Narayani Ganesan, a journalist and Dr Jaya Sreedhar.
