Mumbai: A Mumbai-based Sunni Muslim group has issued a fatwa against Oscar-winning musician A.R. Rahman and renowned Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi accusing them of blasphemy, reports said.
The Raza Academy, which issued the fatwa, cited the composer-director's upcoming film Muhammad: Messenger of God as the reason behind the move. The much awaited movie is the first of Majidi's trilogy on the life of Prophet Muhammad.
The group said that Rahman and Majidi violated Prophet's word that no visual or picture of him be created or kept and urged Muslims to reject the film which makes 'a mockery of Islam'. They added that non-Muslim actors were also part of the film.
Accusing Rahman and Majidi of committing blasphemy, the outfit demanded that both of them are required to recite kalma and solemnise their wedding again.
The group has reportedly wrote to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking a ban on the film, which has been in the making for quite sometime.
The ones, who have seen the film, have been hailing the movie as a Majidi masterpiece and praised Rahman's captivating score.
