Nilambur: Vaulting barriers of religion and family resistance, Babumon Joseph and Naseera have finally tied the knot.
Their love story bears resemblance to that of Moideen and Kanchanamala, a couple from Mukkam, who have become a part of popular culture following the success of the film Ennu Ninte Moideen, but with a pleasant twist in the climax. They had to wait for around two-and-a-half decades to persuade their families to accept their choice and show the world that caste and religion are no deterrent for loving someone.
Babumon aka Kuttan, 45, is the second of the three children of the late Panthanzhikkunnel Joseph and Mary of Mukkatta.
Babumon fell in love with his neighbour Naseera at the age of 21 when he was searching for a job after completing the ITI course. Naseera was a pre-degree student.
Fearing that their community members and parents would oppose to this inter-religious love affair, they kept it a secret for a long time.
In the meantime, Naseera landed a job in the Rubber Board. During that period, both of them turned down several marriage proposals citing various reasons. Finally, they broke the news to their family members about two years ago.
However, as expected, the opposition was vehement. Following this, both of them tried to maintain distance from their family members. That tactic proved to be worked in their favour as the families finally gave them the green signal recently.
Only friends and close relatives attended the wedding, which was held at the Nilambur Officers’ Club.
CPM leader and All India Democratic Women’s Association vice-president P.K. Sainaba, Yukthivadi Sangham district secretary K.K. Radhakrishnan and K. Alikutty were among those who witnessed the simple function.
