Through the years, we have seen the popularity of hard rock music grow, but in Kerala, among the new generation, we haven’t been able to make a place for it — until now.
While Vijayshankar Lohithadas took up the direction, brother Harikrishnan Lohithadas helmed the cinematography along with Pratheek and Pranav to launch their maiden album 'Giddy Hoo' and released the first single 'Why should I scare'.
“We've known Pratheek and Pranav for a long time, as their eldest brother was a close friend of mine. They were into music since their childhood and we thought why not bring their music to life. That's how the entire idea of creating a single popped up”, says Vijayshankar.
Talking about their team and work, Vijayshankar shares, “One can see from the video that the single belongs to a different genre of western classic hard rock that our audience is barely acquainted with. While the visualisation was inspired from hard rock era, including the colour and tone of the video, the story portion might bring to mind Michel Jackson videos. The video was shot at different places including Kodaikanal and Athirapilly.”
It was a coincidence that the video album was brought out on the 20th anniversary of the movie Sallapam reveals Vijayshankar. “Pratheek and Pranav have just finished their class 12 exam and we were of the view that the musical video should be released during the vacation season. Recently when we went to attend the wedding of Sallapam director Sunderdas' son, a friend of theirs told us that the day marked the 20th anniversary of the movie. The release date was set as March 29 long back, but it was a coincidence.”
Ask him what's next, and the 25-year-old has a straight to-the-point answer—a film. “Years ago, when I was a kid, after playing a small role in a movie I jokingly asked my father, 'every one else has grown up and become an actor in the industry, when is my chance?' My brother Harikrishnan has done a couple of short films and also have assisted in film like Kali, Munnariyippu and Oru Vadakkan selfie.
My interest is basically in writing. A script is something that takes shape through one's thoughts. I am working on it, and for me the scriptwriter himself is the best person to direct the movie. Hope my dream comes true soon enough”, signs off Vijayshankar.
