Vikram's 'Spirit of Chennai' is a search for heart and humanity

As a tribute to hundreds of volunteers who stepped up and helped out the city of Chennai during the devastating floods last year, actor Vikram or 'Chiyaan' Vikram, as we know him, released the 'Spirit of Chennai' song on Youtube Monday.

Produced and directed by Vikram, the song features a host of actors, not just from the Tamil industry. A touching song, which is a call for unity, not just in the face of adversity, says 'Chennai, more than a city, is an energy'. A reminder of the surge of water due to the unexpected rainfall last Nov-Dec, and what it did to the spirit of people after having witnessed the death of over 270 people and massive displacement of the survivors, the video is a search for heart and humanity. It asks whether it always takes a calamity for people to come together.

It's hard to keep count of actors who show their faces in the almost 12-minute video; there's Nithya Menen, Nayantara, Suriya, Karthi, Nani, Jayam Ravi, Nivin Pauly, Amala Paul, Prithviraj, Prabhu Deva, Bobby Simha, Khushboo, Ram Charan Teja, Prabhas and Vikram himself, to name a few.

Set to tune by C. Girinadh, and sung by over 20 singers. Rokesh, Madan Karky and Gaana Bala have written the lyrics. With the choreography department safe in the hands of Sridhar Master, Vijay Milton has wielded the camera for the video.
