Visually-impaired girl, 10, plays 'Thumbi Thullal' on piano, impresses AR Rahman

Sahana Nirenkumar, a visually-impaired 10-year-old, has grabbed eyeballs on social media for playing AR Rahman’s 'Thumbi Thullal' on piano.

The viral video has Sahana playing the song from the Vikram-starrer Cobra on two keyboards simultaneously. The video was recorded by her mother and went viral in minutes.

Soon after, the Academy Award-winning composer himself shared the video and wrote, “Sweet”.

Touched by the recognition, the girl’s mother replied to express her gratitude. “Thank u so much @arrahman sir. This is the day we are waiting for at last it had happened today.This single word is enough for her sir, we are speechless.Thanks to God for this wonderful opportunity,”(sic.) she wrote.

Later, the producers of the Tamil film Cobra reached out to the talented girl, and gifted her a full-setup audio recorder.

This is not the first time that Sahana has got wide applauds. Earlier, her another video playing the piano became popular. In it she was seen simultaneously performing the background music from Vijay’s Kaththi, with her right hand, and the score from Suriya’s NGK with the other.

Sahana rose to fame by winning second place in Zee Tamil’s reality television show SaReGaMaPa Lil Champs Season Two, which aired between May and November 2018. She is also an Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records holder for her musical achievements.
