Samuel Abiola Robinson is probably the first African actor to play a lead role in an Indian film.
In fact, Samuel won accolades for his subtle acting in the movie Sudani from Nigeria, directed by Zakariya in which he donned the role of a Nigerian soccer player who joins a football club in Malappuram, Kerala.
Though football is closely followed by many Nigerians, Samuel admitted to Onmanorama in an exclusive chat that he was not a “committed fan”.
“I'm not a strong follower of football as such that I can speak about having expectations. I think a lot of teams from various countries have worked very hard for this World Cup. And I am looking forward to having an overall awesome experience irrespective of which ever team is playing,” he said.
However, Samuel did not hide his adoration for talismanic Argentine star Leo Messi.
“I am looking forward to see Messi play especially in the match between Nigeria and Argentina,” he said.
Two-time World Cup winners Argentina take on Nigeria in their final Group D game on Tuesday, June 26.
“The World Cup is a challenge for each of the team. I wish all the very best for all players. I know there would be competition but I am optimistic about the future of the game and I have faith in the Nigerian Super Eagles,” he said.
