St Petersburg: Argentina snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over Nigeria to qualify for the FIFA World Cup pre-quarterfinals here on Tuesday.

Marcos Rojo volleyed home the winner in the 87th as the South American giants secured the second qualifying spot from Group D behind Croatia.

Argentina, who needed a win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the last 16, went ahead in the 14th minute through Lionel Messi.

But the Super Eagles restored parity through a penalty by Victor Moses in the second half before Rojo delivered at the death for Argentina.
