Panaji: Multi-lingual Keralite filmmaker Priyadarshan has blamed it on the media for the entire debates over growing intolerance in the country.
Even as admitting that the controversies such as the one triggered by the recent statement by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan affects all filmmakers, though in different ways, Priyadarshan said the Indian media have been picking up random incidents and blowing it out of proportion.
The national award winning director, in a conversation with audience at Kala Academy here, said the media are no more interested in anything that is positive nor in development.
"Media are killing the country. They like only negative things. Look at our newspapers, they are all about political fights and such stuff," Priyadarshan said, in reply to a question on the row over Aamir Khan's statement and the parallel screening being organised by FTII students at Panaji.
Priyadarshan also flayed veteran filmmakers and writers who returned their awards in protest to the growing intolerance and government's alleged silence on it saying, 'instead of protesting, I appeal to them to correct the wrongdoers and guide the country."
Earlier this month, Priyadarshan, along with director Madhur Bhandarkar and others, had attended the 'March for India', organised by RSS's cultural wing Sanskar Bharti, led by actor Anupam Kher, against the award returnees.
