India's Oscar entry 'Visaranai' to be screened at IFFI today

Panaji: Vetrimaran's much-acclaimed Tamil film Visaranai, which is India's official entry for the Oscars, will be screened at the ongoing 47th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here Wednesday.

Based on true events, the film was noted for its realistic portrayal of police atrocities in Andhra and Tamil Nadu.

A total of 46 films will be screened in various categories.

There is no feature film from Malayalam slated for screening on the fourth day of the festival. In Indian Panorama's non-feature section, K. Gireesh Kumar's short film Randu Kurippukal will represent Kerala.

The Frankenstein Complex (France) by Gilles Penso, The Bribe of Heaven (Columbia) by Lisandro Duque Naranjo, Crosscurrent (China) by Yang Chao and United States of Love (Polanad/Sweden) by Tomasz Wasilewski etc are among the major films to be screened Wednesday.

Eminent costume designer from France, Rosalie Varda, will impart training in her art as part of the master class section.
