For the first time in the history of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), the organizers of 2016 issued passes for transgenders.

As a gesture of transgender-friendly initiatives, the first pass was handed over to activist Sheethal Shyam by actress Manju Warrier in the presence of director Kamal, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman.

Apart from the two categories for the delegate passes - male and female, there is a third category 'transgender' now. Kerala is the first state to unveil a transgender policy and this edition's IFFK has taken a one step forward by accepting a third category.
