IFFK organisers take Russian filmmaker to police station for no crime of his

Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov visits Fort Janmithri police station in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov is definitely an inquisitive soul. The director, who is in Kerala’s capital city as part of the ongoing International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), wanted to go to a police station.

Sokurov, selected for the IFFK's Lifetime Achievement award this year, expressed his wish to the festival organizers, who were only happy to oblige.

He visited Fort Janamaithri police station on Tuesday to see how the police force worked here.

As soon as he reached the station, he asked to see the type of arms used by the police in Kerala. His wish was granted. The filmmaker also took time know the various kinds of vehicles used by force. He wanted to know the ways employed by officers to nab culprits. Assistant commissioner, Fort, Dinil gave Sokuriv all the answers.

The filmmaker spent almost an hour in the police station asking the officers about the appointment process, hierarchy and other processes in the department.

Though he liked the way the police dealt with cases, he was of the opinion that the station houses were small. Before leaving, Sokurov asked: “Do you have a jail in the police station?” Dinil showed him the lock-up and explained about the detention facilities of the department.

The filmmaker spent almost an hour at the station asking the officers about the appointment process, hierarchy, and other processes.

Kerala Chalachitra Academy secretary Mahesh Panchu also accompanied the filmmaker.
