Kochi Metro a mega hit, earns over Rs 20L on the first day

Kochi: Kochi Metro became a mega hit among Keralites with a first-day collection of Rs 20,42,740 from ticket sales. As per data available until 7 pm, 62,320 people took the ride on Monday. Both Palarivattom and Aluva stations continue to be crowded.

As the rush at Pulinchode and Ambattukavu reduced in the evening, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) started the sale of Kochi One smart card at these stations.

Those who managed to board the train were busy sharing their sense of achievement to their relatives and friends through mobile phones. Many who took the first train to Aluva were from faraway places.

Kochiites now await the completion of the metro at least till Maharaja's, which authorities hope to complete in a year's time. The 13-kilometer first phase of the metro has 11 stations and covers the distance in 25 minutes.

The minimum fare is Rs 10 and the maximum fare – Palarivattom to Aluva – is Rs 40. There are two other slabs of Rs 20 and Rs 30.

The Kochi Metro was dedicated to the nation by prime minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
